Protect Biodiversity Hotspots with Wetlands Intl.

Wetlands are the places where WATER meets LAND. Think mangroves and saltmarshes and seagrasses and other fun sounding ecosystems. Wetlands are like superfoods for the Earth. Even though they make up only 10% of Earth's surface, nearly 40% of all species rely on them.

Similarly, even though peatlands cover only 3% of the global land area, they store twice as much carbon as all the world’s forests combined.

Yet... we're losing our wetlands. Peatlands are being drained and burned, mangroves are being cleared for aquaculture and tourism, and river floodplains are being cut off by dams and levees. Since 1970, we've lost 35% of wetlands, which is three times faster than the rate that we're losing forests.

Wetlands International protects and restores wetlands by: - Restoring and protecting actual wetland sites - Bringing people and organizations together to expand conservation efforts - Helping governments improve their wetlands policies Swipe right to show your support for Wetlands International :)
