I downloaded this app on accident but it’s actually pretty great.

Frequently Asked Questions 💎🔮

After you subscribe, you gain access to your membership perks and you can start voting in project drops. The money from your membership goes into a shared pool, which is used to payout the winners. We don't take any cut, so all of your contributions (besides what the payment processors take) goes to projects you vote on.

Periodically there are “project drops”: new batches of projects for you to vote on. When a new drop happens, we'll send you a notification, and you can go in our app, browse the projects, and “like” your favorites.

After voting closes, the winner is determined according to some specified conditions, for example by the “like” count. After a project wins, we disburse funding, and you can stay updated on the project in our app.

In some cases, the projects you vote on are curated by the nohotdog.love team. In other cases, we'll have “open applications,” where anyone can apply. Either way, winners are determined through in-app voting.

The Impact Fund is our “boring-but-effective” charity fund to support really cool charities that get overlooked 💚

The fund is administered by our non-profit partner, FarmKind, and consists in a portfolio of charities that help animals, address climate change, and protect nature. Supporting the Impact Fund is completely optional — you can opt in from your membership settings. See the other FAQ questions to learn more about the Impact Fund.

Each animal has a dedicated charity in the portfolio. For example, for shrimp there's the Shrimp Welfare Project, for fish the Fish Welfare Initiative, for chickens The Humane League, and so on. These charities either directly improve the welfare of these animals, or else prevent their suffering indirectly by promoting alternatives to factory farmed products.

The Impact Fund charities primarily abate carbon emissions by promoting food system reform, for example by promoting plant-based alternatives to factory farming. (Beef production is one of the leading sources of greenhouse gas emissions.)

Our portfolio protects nature by fighting industrial agriculture, the leading cause of deforestation and biodiversity loss. Specifically, the charities in our portfolio support plant-based alternatives, which lowers the demand for meat (and therefore the amount of deforestation). They also fight against “greenwashing”, a strategy large corporations use to hide the environmental damage they cause.

100% of your money goes to project funding, except for the payment processing fees taken by Stripe or Apple. See our public funding ledger.

No. Due to the nature of our offerings, your contributions are not legally considered to be donations, and so are not eligible for tax deductions.

This website was made by Ben. He got his PhD in animal ethics before building nohotdog.love, with the hopes of making it more fun and easy to help animals and the environment. After getting started, he realized there were serious problems with the way important projects get funded, and so set out to create a more democratic process for creating our future.
