the horrors persist...Your subscription funds projects that make our world a better place.
Half of your subscription goes to our Impact Fund, a portfolio of charities curated by experts for maximum impact per dollar across a diversified range of climate-related cause areas. We find the best charities around the world creating systematic change, so you don't have to. Unlike other “climate” funds, our impact fund includes animal welfare as a relevant impact metric. As a result, we prioritize climate projects with animal welfare as a co-benefit.
The other half of your subscription goes to our Microgrants Fund. We bring to you the best new ideas from around the world, and our community votes for which of these ideas to fund. The microgrants are for $500–$3,000 each, depending on the project.
Each animal has a dedicated charity. For example, for shrimp we have the Shrimp Welfare Initiative, for fish the Fish Welfare Project, for chickens The Humane League, and so on. These charities either directly improve the welfare of these animals, or else prevent their suffering indirectly by promoting alternatives to factory farmed products.
Some of our projects abate carbon emissions by promoting food system reform, e.g. plant-based alternatives to factory farming. Other projects, like those we fund through Climeworks, support direct carbon removal, e.g. biochar, reforestation, afforestation, etc.
Our portfolio both protects existing ecosystems, and restores damaged ecosystems.
First, our portfolio protects existing ecosystems by fighting industrial agriculture, the leading cause of deforestation and biodiversity loss. Specifically, the charities in our portfolio support plant-based alternatives, which lowers the demand for meat (and therefore the amount of deforestation). They also fight against “greenwashing”, a strategy large corporations use to hide the environmental damage they cause.
Second, our portfolio restores natural ecosystems through nature-focused carbon removal projects. Specifically, through Climateworks, we fund nature-based carbon removal projects including reforestation, afforestation, mangroves, and biochar.

Lobbies for sustainable agriculture and food access rights, while leading lawsuits against corporate greenwashing.

Works with scientists, businesses, and policymakers to support innovation in alternative proteins.

Fights factory farming with a focus on neglected regions of the world.

The first organization dedicated to improving the welfare of farmed fish at scale.

Provides humane slaughter equipment to ensure shrimp don’t suffer slow, painful deaths by suffocation.

Nature-focused carbon removal projects, including afforestation, reforestation, mangroves, and biochar.

Occasionally on our website you'll see these estimations of impact. To make these estimates, we use an impact calculator developed by the non-profit FarmKind. Based on the historical track records of a charity, they estimate how many dollars it takes for that charity to deliver its impact, e.g. prevent a farm animal from suffering.
