Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

no hotdog ("we," "us," "our") operates nohotdog.love and the no hotdog iOS and Android apps (together, "the Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We collect as little data as possible to run the Service.

2. Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign in, we receive basic account details from your selected sign-in provider, such as your email address, name, and profile image. If you sign in with a code sent to your email, we receive the email address you enter. You may also add profile details like a username, display name, bio, location, avatar or profile photo, and profile visibility setting.

Membership and payment information

We keep the information needed to manage memberships, purchases, and account access, including subscription status, purchase history, App Store and Google Play transaction information, payment provider identifiers, and a cancellation reason if you choose to give one. Stripe, Apple, and Google process payments; we do not see or store your card number, CVV, or Apple or Google payment credentials.

Donations and waitlists

You don't need an account to donate or join a waitlist. If you donate, we receive your email address, the amount, and any name or note you choose to add. If you join a waitlist, we keep your email address and how you found us.

App activity and preferences

We store the choices and activity needed to run the community, such as membership preferences, voting choices, project profiles and voting-drop submissions you create (including uploaded project images and media), posts, blogs, comments, likes, saves, poll votes, follows, chat messages, direct messages, reactions, reports, moderation actions, invites, credits and credit gifts, notification preferences, and feedback or support requests you send us.

Location

If you add a location to your profile, we use OpenStreetMap to turn it into approximate, city-level coordinates. We use those coordinates only to sort the member directory by who's nearby, and never show them to other members. If you let the app use your device's location for this, it is rounded to about 1 km before it leaves your device and is not stored.

Contacts

If you invite friends from your contacts in the iOS app, the phone numbers you pick go straight to your Messages app. We never receive or store your contacts.

Device and usage information

If you enable push notifications, we store the device token and related delivery information needed to send and troubleshoot them. Like most online services, we also receive product interaction, diagnostic, and log information from the apps, the web app, and privacy-preserving web analytics. We do not use advertising trackers or cross-app/cross-site tracking analytics.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Authenticate your identity and manage your account
• Manage memberships, purchases, donations, and account access
• Run voting drops, project submissions, credits, invites, member history, and leaderboards
• Run community features such as profiles, project pages, the feed, blogs, chat, and search
• Apply saved preferences and show relevant community content
• Send permitted email, in-app, and push notifications
• Show community statistics (e.g., subscriber count)
• Understand how the apps are used so we can improve them
• Keep the Service secure, reliable, and working as expected

4. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following services to operate:

• Clerk — authentication (privacy policy)
• Stripe — payment processing for memberships and donations (privacy policy)
• Apple — iOS platform services, Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, and push notification delivery (privacy policy)
• Google — Google sign-in, Google Play purchases, and Android push notification delivery (privacy policy)
• Convex — database and backend (privacy policy)
• Resend — email delivery (privacy policy)
• Vercel — web hosting and privacy-preserving web analytics (privacy policy)
• PostHog — in-app product analytics (privacy policy)
• OpenStreetMap — turning profile locations into approximate coordinates (privacy policy)

We do not sell your data. We do not use advertising or cross-app/cross-site tracking analytics.

6. Public Information

Community totals, aggregate funding information, and voting results may be visible to members or the public. Your display name and avatar appear with what you share in the community — such as posts, blogs, comments, chat messages, likes, poll votes, and published projects — whether your profile is public or private. Project profiles you publish or submit may be visible to members and the public, including in voting drops and on shareable project pages.

If your profile is public, others can also see your profile page and find you in the member directory, search, leaderboards, and the supporter lists on winning projects, which show that you were a member or voted in that drop. Making your profile private hides your profile page and removes you from those places, but does not hide what you share in the community. We never show how you voted. You can change profile visibility in your settings.

7. Data Security

We use security practices appropriate for the Service: Clerk provides authentication, Stripe handles card processing, Convex encrypts data at rest, signing in with Google, Apple, or an emailed code means we never store passwords, and provider webhooks or signed payloads are verified.

8. Your Rights

• View supported account data in the app or web app
• Edit your profile at any time
• Adjust supported email, notification, and profile visibility settings
• Delete your account from Settings in the iOS or Android app, or request access, correction, export, or deletion by contacting us
• Some records may remain when needed for the reasons described in our retention policy

For applicable jurisdictions: you may have additional rights to access, rectification, erasure, and data portability. Contact us to exercise these rights.

9. Children

no hotdog is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.

10. Cookies & Browser Storage

Our only cookies are essential session cookies for sign-in (Clerk). The web app also keeps a few settings in your browser, such as your appearance and last-used sign-in method, and remembers which link brought you to the site for the rest of that visit. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

11. Email Communications

Current and past members, and anyone else who opts in, may receive community news and updates. You can opt out of non-transactional email in settings. In-app notifications may be shown in the app and can be archived or cleared. Mobile push notifications are permission-based, and you can choose which kinds you receive in the app's notification settings. Transactional emails, such as payment confirmations and account changes, may still be sent regardless of your preference.

12. Changes to This Policy

Updates will be posted on this page. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the site.
